The Origin of 103

financial diagram

103 Advisory Group is named in honor of founder Rick Milton’s grandmother, Bernadine Cushman. Born in 1914, she came of age during the Great Depression and saw firsthand the most profound destruction of wealth in modern United States history. Like so many in her generation, her views about money and its purpose were indelibly shaped by this tumultuous situation. She carried these experiences with her the rest of her life and passed on the wisdom she gained from it to her children and grandchildren.

She always prioritized what mattered most in life, and she focused her energies on what she could control. She never wasted much time worrying about expensive material goods, so she found it easy to be content with what she had. Perhaps this peace of mind is what contributed to her incredible longevity—she passed a few years after her 103rd birthday. For perspective, the average life expectancy of a woman born in 1914 was less than 60 years! Her long life is a testament to the importance of preparing for, and working toward, long-term results, and in the spirit of her powerful legacy, we founded the 103 Advisory Group.
